What Are FaceBook Proxys?

January 26th, 2012 -

By Mike Boudet

For anyone who uses FaceBook social networking on a regular basis, FaceBook proxys can be an extremely helpful. If you frequently work in an environment or access the internet from a location that has firewalls installed to prevent access to social networking sites, then you need to know more about this useful tool.

Social Networking

Over the past few years, social networking sites have exploded on the internet. Sites like FaceBook, MySpace and LinkedIn, just to name a few, have become integral to both building a network of friends and for business people looking to make beneficial connections with others.

Social networking not only allows people to follow your comments, photos and news about your activities, but also allows people to follow conversations about topics they find interesting and relevant to their own lives. For many people, checking on their FaceBook or MySpace page daily – if not more often – is an important activity.

Firewalls

With the advent of numerous distractions, many businesses have installed network firewalls that prevent access to certain types of internet websites. Additionally, schools and libraries and other public internet computers have also installed this kind of blocking software. The reasons for using firewalls are important to understand.

For many companies, the loss of productive hours of employee time has lead to the necessity of using firewalls to prevent employees from wasting time on websites that are not related to their work. Recently, it was found that as much as three to four hours a day are easily wasted on internet surfing if employees are not closely supervised and firewalls are not installed on company computers.

In addition to concerns about wasted time, companies also have understandable concerns about the potential for viruses, spyware and malware being installed on company computers as a result of web surfing by employees. It can cost companies thousands of dollars to repair and reconfigure every work station that has been infected with malware, spyware and viruses. Plus, the network usually has to be scrubbed clean too.

FaceBook Proxys

FaceBook proxys are a method of going around firewalls that are installed on company or public internet computers. The way a proxy works is that you purchase a membership for access to a website that has anonymous access to social networking sites such as FaceBook, MySpace or others. The work station you are on does not recognize the proxy website as a malicious or undesirable website and does not block access to it, and the user is allowed to go through the website to gain access to the social networking site.

Before signing up for a social networking proxy site, make sure that you research the site thoroughly, since there are occasionally sites that advertise that they are proxy sites, but instead they are really hacking sites that are used to gain access to your private information and hijack your personal sites and accounts. Reputable and safe FaceBook proxys not only allow anonymous access, but they also encrypt all incoming and outgoing data.

Facebook For Parents

January 25th, 2012 -

By Maureen Birdsall

Attending school functions & sporting events, I often engage with other parents. There is always the chatter of what you do, etc. When I say I create web sites, and work with Social Media, I hear this a lot (at least once a week):

“I don’t get this whole Facebook thing, and what it means and what it does. I don’t want my kid entering into this weird internet site and talking to strangers. I can barely check my email, and I have no idea what they’ll be doing on there. I put my foot down and said no.” Usually there is a mortified, eye rolling 8th grader sitting beside them.

My response is: “Do you have 30 minutes one afternoon? I’ll get you ramped up on Facebook, give you a quick tour and show you what it is.” I’ve had no less than 10 parents take me up on this. Every single one of them eventually gave a thumbs up to their child, and are using Facebook as another way to monitor & keep in the loop on what their kids are up to. They also enjoy it for themselves, keeping in touch with old school pals & sharing photos.

I think MySpace gave Facebook a bad rap. Every parent watched in horror as they read about teenage suicides over MySpace posts, nude photos, and basically teens exploiting themselves and their friends with bad behavior.

Facebook is different from MySpace. The premise is the same, but there are some key differentiators.

1. You need to use your real name and email address. Yes, there are ways around this, but kids want to find each other and connect. It’s in their best interest to use their real names.

2. Facebook uses the “friends” premise. If you’re not my friend, then you aren’t in my loop of people that can view what I’m doing. So as long as kids are only approving and accepting friendships from people they know – it’s all good.

This does not however stop kids from being completely cruel to each other. There are many dramas that play out for a high-schooler on Facebook. A relationship change is as devastating as a public break-up, an unappealing photo can be tagged and circulated and there are plenty of creative ways to lash out in a fallen friendship. But the same is true with text messaging, or hanging out down-town.

My advice to nervous parents is this. Open yourself a Facebook page. Even if you’re computer illiterate, it’s a simple process that will take you only 15 minutes. Find a few close pals that are already there you can be “Friends” with, and try it out. The more information you put in during the registration process, the more suggestions Facebook will make for you (people that are already there from your high-school & work). Share some photos, accept Mob War invitations, and get SuperPoked. You’ll be hooked in no time, sharing photos and updating your status.

If you’re having fun, and feeling comfortable – ask yourself if your child is mature enough for this? Are they responsible with email and their cell phone? Are they comfortable with interacting with their friends this way? If your answer is yes, then walk your child through the process.

My best advice is that you make it unconditional that they are your “friend”, and remain that way. I am the token friend of about 20 neighborhood kids & family kids. I don’t interact with them, I don’t tag them, and I don’t Superpoke them. I do however watch their status, browse what they post, see which groups they are fans of and make sure that they are well watched over. It’s entertaining to see what’s going on in their lives, and I learn as much about their thoughts & feelings as I do driving carpool (which is a lot). For me Facebook is like having magic access to those secret text messages I wish I could see.

Do You Facebook?

January 25th, 2012 -

By David Wygant

So when men hang out together, it’s called a mantourage: four or five guys walking around – if you’ve ever seen the TV show Entourage – every man has his version of their own entourage. It’s called a mantourage.

A lot of guys just hang with the same guys every weekend. You’ve seen these mantourages cruise the bars every Friday and Saturday night – usually there’s a group of guys consistently drinking as if drinking were a sport!

They actually plan out their meals – “hey dude, we’ve got to eat pizza at 7:00, start drinking at 8:30, and you don’t want to have that extra slice because the alcohol will kick in faster!”

Living in California, there are lots of mantourages running around. If you’ve ever gone down to Manhattan Beach, there’s mantourages on the beach – they’re usually the group of guys with the keg, hanging out all day long like they are 20 years old again!

But they’re not. Then they go back to their group house that they share in their thirties, and they sit down on the lawn furniture that decorates their living room – they thought that was cool!

So what do women do? Well, women join chickourages!

You know the woman: she’s out with her friends and out comes the digital camera at every moment? “Here it comes… the digital camera!” You never see guys walk around all the time with their digital cameras, saying, “hey, Joe, why don’t you and Jimmy get together right now and we’ll take a picture! This is a great picture moment!”

But women are whipping out that camera non-stop. Everywhere they go. Judy tries on a new dress and here comes the camera. Out for margaritas? Here comes the camera. Out with a group of friends at a bachelorette party? Here comes the camera!

Look at this! We’re in the airport, on the way to Mexico – here comes the camera. On the airplane, when the stewardess spills something – here comes the camera.

That camera comes out everywhere. Women have become documentary filmmakers. They shoot their entire lives. You have to look at every single picture that they have. It’s amazing – every single time, the camera comes out.

Judy tries on a new bathing suit? Out comes the camera. There they are on the beach in Mexico – out comes the camera.

And the funny thing about it is that every woman that you see on either Myspace or Facebook seems like a chronic alcoholic! Every single picture has alcohol in it. Yet these women will write on profiles on dating sites: drink? Hardly ever.

But still there are 75 pictures of them sucking down alcohol. It seems like either they are lying or they really are chronic alcoholics!

But it’s funny with these women and their chickourages. If you go to a woman’s Myspace page, it’s like a visual biography of her entire life! “There I am when I was 15 – oops, there’s a drink in my hand.” “There I was at 19 – there’s a drink in my hand.” “Hey, there I was last week,” and there’s still a drink in her hand. You’d think they’d send them to AA instead of Myspace!

Women have to document everything. The funny thing about it that the women actually send you updates: “I updated my Myspace page today.” And you think, wow, that’s so exciting, why don’t I go look at more pictures of you and your friends? I’d rather see you naked, in the flesh, in front of me then see pictures of you with your chickourage!

Facebook Fan Page Secrets – The #1 Secrets to Facebook Fan Page on Integrating in the Internet

January 24th, 2012 -

By Saktesh Ethan

Facebook Fan Page Secrets Introduction

If you have not heard of the social networking site called Facebook then you have either been marooned on a desert island or living under a rock. Facebook is a site that has set the social networking market on fire and raised the bar for all other sites.

So…How to implement the Facebook Fan Page Secrets?

With over 400 million active users and an Alexa traffic rank of 2 it is one of the most popular sites on the Internet with hundreds of millions of page views every single day.

Facebook is a tool that can help you to boost your business not only by making sales buy by keeping in touch with your market and customer base. It’s a great way to build a reputation within a niche and to generate a list of targeted potential customers (friends).

Whilst Facebook is primarily set up as a social networking site for regular people to interact, they have recognised the face that businesses are interested in using it and actively encourage them to do so with a host of applications and features designed to help you market your web presence.

So how do you make Facebook Fan Page work for you and your business?

Firstly you need to create an account. You really need to separate out your personal and your business accounts as you don’t want the two to cross over. This can cause embarrassment if you are posting personal things and your potential customers view them. Some people don’t censor what they post on their own accounts and it can alienate potential customers.

You will also need a different Facebook Fan Page account for each niche you intend to work with. If you try and work in multiple niches with the same Facebook account you will have trouble retaining friends because many of your updates will not be relevant to them.

Your profile needs to be superb. It has to grab people’s attention and make them want to be your friend. So, give it a personality and make it personable. If people don’t feel they can like you from seeing your profile, they won’t add you as a friend.

You also need a picture on your profile. This will help attract friends. You can either use one of yourself if you are working in your name or a stock photo or other picture if you are marketing with a pseudonym. Remember that the photo needs to be something that will draw people in and make it relevant to your niche. If you are looking to attract people who own dogs then a profile picture of you (or someone) with a dog will draw in a lot more friends.

Make sure that you complete all of your profile as well and make it keyword rich (without spamming) and attractive to potential new friends.

Once this is all set up you can start adding friends. Search for your keywords and add friends who are active and well known in that niche. Once you have done this you can start adding their friends to your list and sooner or later many of their friends will start adding you when they see you in their suggested friends list. Remember that Facebook does have a limit to the number of accounts you can add every day so don’t go wild!

Another good technique for making Facebook work for you is to create your own group of join groups relating to your niche. This allows you to interact with people who are in the niche and market yourself and your business.

If you own a blog then remember that you can syndicate your RSS feed from your blog into your profile. This can be very handy to help you build a reputation and provide content to your friends. When you update your blog it will show in your Facebook profile, which means you could get more people through to your blog too.

Conclusion

Facebook is a valuable tool for any online business person and one that many marketers overlook due to lack of time or mis-understanding on implementing Facebook Fan Page.

What Is Facebook :: Facebook Ads Explained

By Dirk Wagner I

Facebook Ads – What is the right budget to set?

When you are first experiencing with any pay-per-click program, you should be very wary of spending too much money too fast. By setting a small budget to begin with, you are correctly experimenting with what is going to work for you and your offer. Let’s think about the negatives of setting a high budget per day right away with a new advertisement:

-You have no idea if your offer will convert or not

-You have no idea if there is more demand for your offer then you anticipated

-You have no idea what will happen whatsoever

Why would you setup a $100 a day budget right away vs. a $10 budget?

Well, you’d be an idiot, that’s the only reason why.

Whenever you are starting out right away you should always test your market and offer with a small budget before cranking it up. Let’s say your $10 budget is converting very well – then it’s time to step up your budget to $20. From $20 move to $30 etc..

You never want to make any HUGE jumps in Internet Marketing, it’s better to take many baby steps first.

Split testing: Any professional marketer knows they key to succeeding is by testing their advertisements. This is no difference in what we are doing; you must test your offers! A new marketer might think they have a great offer and set their daily budget to $200-$300, which is a lot of money to them. Well, what if the offer the novice marketer thought was going to do well turned out to do horrible? They are out almost their entire marketing budget. I have seen this happen to many marketers and I hate to see it happen.

There is nothing wrong with setting a 5-10 dollar budget the first day with 3 different ads to see which one does best.

You also want to be able to have multiple landing pages for your visitor to land on. Put a statcounter code on these pages to see which ones are getting the most hits. You can sign up for free statcounter codes that will be invisible on your landing pages at www.statcounter.com . I use them for over 50 projects and have had great results.

Schedule: I prefer to run my advertisements from Saturday until Thursday. In my tests, I have come to the conclusion that Fridays and Sundays are not the greatest days for Internet Marketing. It seems like many people do not bother poking around the Internet and are out doing other activities. During the week and Saturday’s are generally my best days for profits. Schedule your ads accordingly to your peak times.

Budget Management: Be sure to manage your budget across many offers. Do not put all your eggs in one basket. Successful marketers have a lot going on that equals them to being successful. Do not be discouraged if one of your offers do not work, just cross it out and move on to the next one.

Facebook Layouts and Facebook Backgrounds

January 23rd, 2012 -

By Peter Nisbet

Using alternative Facebook layouts can jazz up your Facebook Profile or Wall, and there are many of these online for to choose free of charge. Be careful in your selection, though because not all are free and you could find yourself faced with a bill.

There are large numbers of different designs of Facebook layouts available, ranging from animal themes, thru nature to music, abstract and science themes. Which you choose is up to you. The way they work is very simple: you simply log on to the site involved, choose your theme and download the activation software. Then all you need do is to choose your theme and then click to activate.

Hey presto! Next time you open your Facebook page you will find your theme already uploaded and already making your Facebook page a lot less boring than it was before. If you already have Facebook running when you activate the Facebook layout then either click ‘refresh’ or reload Facebook. If you can’t see a refresh button, right click with the cursor anywhere on your Facebook page and look for ‘refresh’.

The same procedure also works for Facebook backgrounds.

If you use Firefox, and have some Firefox windows running, you will likely be asked to close these before the activation button will operate. Once all your Firefox windows have been closed, simply click on ‘Activate’ and the Facebook layout you have downloaded will be applied to your Facebook page.

There is nothing else that you have to do. You can download a number of different layouts and change them whenever you feel like it simply by activating the new styles. The old one will be deactivated and the new Facebook layout will take its place. You may decide to use a nature theme one day and then change to a sci-fi theme of stars and space ships the next. If you like animals you could have a dog sitting up at each side of your Facebook page or a pair of cats or even penguins.

You can literally use a new design each day to project your mood or your personality. This is a great way achieving this. Such visual changes to your Facebook Profile makes your page stand out, and projects you as an independent soul that can project their own personality on their Facebook page. It is purely a psychological change but it can make a heck of a difference to your kids when they show off their new Facebook layouts to their friends. They will love you for it.

Not only that, but if you are using Facebook in your business as a promotional tool, it will be much more powerful if your page stands out from the rest through your imaginative use of Facebook layouts and Facebook backgrounds. You can even design your own – it is fairly simple to do so, again by means of templates, and then you will truly have a unique Facebook page or Profile that will enable you stand out from the crowd.

Facebook Marketing Strategy – How to Use Facebook For Business

January 23rd, 2012 -

By Neil Joseph Ashworth

We’ve all heard the buzz about Facebook and if you’ve been around for a while you’ll have heard how easy and how essential it is to have a social media marketing strategy for your company. After all, with over 300 million users on Facebook it must be easy to find a handful of customers almost each and every day, right? Wrong.

It’s far from simple and you only have to speak to a few different people who have tried to build a successful marketing strategy on Facebook and you’ll realise that the vast majority of marketers pushing their products on the Facebook platform are making few if any sales from their ever increasing activity. Why is this? In short, no clear marketing strategy. This article will provide you with the knowledge to develop a simple yet effective marketing strategy for Facebook. Here goes;

1. Branding

Know who you are, who you are not and where you are going with your business in the next five years (or at least where you plan to go) before starting out on Facebook. This will allow you to create a strong brand which tells your potential customers and business partners exactly who they are dealing with.

2. Networking

Decide on a plan to network in specific areas. Draw up a list of groups in your niche that you can find quickly each time you go onto Facebook in order to add value, comment on and share content and information within the group discussion board and network with other group members to build relationships and exchange ideas.

Find a few business pages of leaders within your industry and become a fan of the page. By doing this you will be able to see exactly what your competitors are up to on Facebook and also who else is a fan of your business rivals. In addition, you can also comment on updates made by the fan page administrator which will be seen by everyone who follows the page, offering you free advertising in the process.

Add relevant contacts to your list by carrying out a quick search of the Facebook platform to see what type of people are out there talking about your industry. This is really simple to do but very powerful; simply type in your chosen keyword or search term into the search tab at the top right hand side of your Facebook profile page, hit the search symbol and then work your way through the results column on the left hand side of the page,, providing you with search results from a range of different sources across the Facebook platform.

3. Sales

The final frontier in many ways and an increasingly difficult place to arrive at when using social networking sites to build your business but if you get this part right it can pay off big style. As the saying goes, if you don’t ask, you don’t get and Facebook marketing is no different. The best way to make a sale is to plan for it and with a little modification to your user profile you can set up a unique opt-in form on your profile page to offer people the chance to subscribe to more information from you about your product or service. If you want to go one better, then why not set up a Facebook page for your business and add a shopping cart facility to allow people to buy straight from your door, without ever having to leave the great land of Facebook?

Whatever you decide to do when marketing on Facebook for your business, remember the one rule of thumb; people don’t frequent social networking sites to be sold to, so don’t sell them on anything and you might be surprised how many sales you can actually make!

Marketing With Facebook: The First Product You Sell On Facebook Is Yourself

January 22nd, 2012 -

By George Dean

Any savvy marketer will tell you that if you meet someone new, you shake hands firmly and you make eye contact and try to establish some personal rapport, as soon as possible. When you find those friends or potential business associates online, you’re already a bit ahead of yourself because you should have some rapport from past associations. To seal the electronic deal, send them a message that you want to be their friend. In a way, you have to re-introduce yourself to them as if they were a semi-stranger because you are online and they can’t see you through their PC screen.

When you find someone you know, you can choose to “Add as Friend” and then a message box will pop up. Here, you can remind your old friend of who you are and what you shared together. Did you sing in the same choir at church? Why not say: “Hey, Buddy, great to see a fellow choir member here online! What have you been up to since we last saw each other?” It’s always great to ask a question to get a reply. The idea is to establish that virtual handshake, make it as firm as possible by identifying who you are and their connection to you, and then try to establish a rapport or connection with them so that they will agree to add you as a friend.

Networking online has advantages and disadvantages. For instance, one advantage to online networking is you can approach many different people to build your network, in much less time than if you tried to do this physically.

The disadvantage is that so many people are trying to get to know each other, you can quickly be lost in the crowd or simply ignored by people who no longer want to be anyone’s friend! Hopefully, by starting out with people with whom you have relationships in the physical world, you will have a firm footing in the Cyberworld to help you grow your network bigger when it comes time to do that.

Have A Story To Tell

This is where the marketing model diverges completely from the conventional model. In a conventional model, you might get up in front of a group of people (particularly if you are consultant) and explain the benefits of your products or services. Your sales presentation would be snazzy, eye-catching, and full of information that meets the customer’s needs.

In Facebook, this will only bore people to tears and send them scrambling to the exit door. Instead, after you establish rapport with someone, you will want to reel them into your sales funnel using storytelling as your main technique. Of course, this can take a little longer, but this is not really a business proposition, it is a seduction.

Some of the greatest examples of this marketing technique for online sales can be seen at eBay. Who can forget the story of the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich? It wasn’t just the image of the Virgin Mary that made it sell for $28,000 and become an Internet story for weeks, but it was also the story behind the grilled cheese sandwich that helped increase its value in the eyes of the Internet bidders.

The person who posted the sandwich claimed it was 10 years old and responsible for helping her win $70,000 at a casino. As proof of its holiness, the person claimed the sandwich never exhibited signs of mold.

While we all find this story incredibly humorous, the fact is she walked away with $28,000 from the auction of a grilled cheese sandwich. That’s the power of storytelling when it comes to Internet marketing.

Now, that you have someone’s attention, you might think it’s time to make your sales pitch. Hold on! The first product you have to sell on a social networking site is yourself. These types of interactions take a little longer upfront than conventional methods of marketing where you are trying to contact as many people as possible and then issuing a sales pitch to get someone to buy. That’s a very quick way of alienating all your friends on Facebook, and they probably won’t come back.

Since your friends lend your online presence a degree of credibility and trust, once all your friends leave, you are basically bankrupt on a social network. You might as well leave and start a different profile (although Facebook only allows one profile per user) or use a different site.

Focus on getting to know your friends a little better and finding out what about their identities has attracted them to you. Then, promote that part of your image more to gain more people from their network to join your own network. You should try to remain in your targeted niche for the services or products you are selling. Do sell your traits, but gear them to your image and the identities of those people you are trying to attract. The more interesting you are to them, the more likely they will tell a friend about what you are doing on your Facebook account.

Facebook Online Ads Versus Facebook Flyers

January 22nd, 2012 -

By Dirk Wagner I

In this article, I am going to go over the different between Facebook Ads and its predecessor Facebook Flyers. They are both great services that have really changed how people are advertising on the Internet. Let’s look in depth the changes since flyers.

Facebook Ads, formally Facebook Fliers are getting a lot of attention around the Internet. Since Facebook started offering advertising solutions, it seems their way of providing value to the marketer has improved with every update. At first, they had a program called Facebook Fliers. The basic concept of Facebook Fliers was you paid for per thousand impressions. While this was a good concept, it didn’t work as well as it way supposed to. The current program being used is called Facebook Ads, which has the option of paying per click or per impression. The targeting, pricing, and setup seemed to improve with Facebooks newest creation. The general consensus found with everyone I have spoke to is they are experiencing much better results using CPC versus CPM. If you think about it, if your visitor actually takes the time to read your ad, and then click it, they have to be interested.

Let’s look at the difference between Flyers and Ads:

With Facebook Flyers, this is what the user would view, with no impressions. Facebook first offered these as a way for students to get the word out about clubs, jobs, and other campus activities. After Facebook opened up Fliers to any marketer they realized they were going to have to switch it over to “Facebook Ads.” Notice on our 2nd image the ad says “Sponsored” at the bottom; this signifies that Facebook is being paid per click through the promoter.

Let’s think, what is really better, Ads or Flyers? Would you as a marketer and promoter rather pay per thousand impressions or pay per qualified click you receive? Well, lets look at the pros and cons of paying per click vs per thousand impressions.

First, an impression is just that, an impression. What are the chances that someone looking at their messages, groups, and comments is going to glance over and look at your advertisement? Probably not that good, out of 1000 impressions you could probably expect a 0.5%-1% click-through-rate or about 7.5 clicks. Now, let’s look at the other side of things. With Ads, you are only charged per click every time someone actually wants to visit your webpage. This means the user is qualified as being a real and prime lead for your offer.

In my opinion, being charged per click versus per thousand impressions is definitely the way to go. I would feel much more comfortable in paying for advertising knowing that I was only charged when a user actually wanted to see my ad. Sure, you are going to have the users that click the ad because they are bored or really just want to play around, but that is with any advertising.

Facebook Ads is great and really changing the way people advertise today on the Internet.
